Description

The Synagogue of Rome is one of the largest in Europe and was built between 1901 and 1904 in the former Ghetto area by Vincenzo Costa and Osvaldo Armanni,. Roman Jews, to whom after the unification of Italy were granted citizenship, decided to raise the new Temple between the two major symbols of freedom in Rome: the Campidoglio or the town hall; and Gianicolo, where the hardest battles for independence were fought. From outside, the Synagogue has a square shape with a large dome. It now houses the Jewish Museum of Rome.
